Professor Matthew Rosseinsky (1992, Chemistry) and Professor Dudley Shallcross (1990, Chemistry) – contemporaries at Christ Church – were awarded OBEs in the King's birthday honours list.

Professor Matthew Rosseinsky and Professor Dudley Shallcross

Professor Matthew Rosseinsky completed his DPhil at Merton College in 1990 and came to Christ Church in 1992 as a Tutor in Inorganic Chemistry. He served as a member of the Governing Body during his seven years at Christ Church. He has since led a distinguished career as Professor of Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Liverpool, receiving the Harrison Memorial Prize in 1991, the Corday–Morgan Medal and Prize in 2000, and the Tilden Lectureship of the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) in 2006. 

Professor Dudley Shallcross completed a DPhil in atmospheric chemistry at Christ Church. He held postdoctoral and fellowship positions at the University of Cambridge, before joining the University of Bristol’s Department of Chemistry in 1999. He has been Professor of Atmospheric Chemistry at Bristol for much of his career and is committed to science outreach and education. Since 2018, he has also been Extraordinary Professor at South Africa’s University of the Western Cape.
